Amigos Spanish School

Q: Is the school close to the town centre?

A: Yes, it is only a 10 minute walk from the main square, the "Plaza de Armas".

Q: Where is the money that I pay my Spanish classes with going to exactly?

A: Since the beginning of Amigos in 2000, we've been spending all our profits on the Youth Program, but since we bought the new house to expand Amigos the funds are being channeled into paying off our debts from this, and of course to pay the teachers and family homestays. We are currently financing the Youth Program with small and private donations.

Q: How much will I pay for a taxi to the school from the Plaza de Armas?

A: 2.50 soles

Q: How close are the host families to the school by taxi and walking?

A: Generally all host families are near to each other and it takes around 25 minutes to walk to Amigos and by taxi 5 minutes (2.50 soles).

Q: What do I need to bring to the school for Spanish classes?

A: You will need to bring with you a Spanish dictionary, notebook and a pen. The school will provide you with a folder for your lessons work. If learning Spanish for more than 4 weeks, the textbook Espanol en Marcha will be recommended, which will cost you approximately USD$25.

Q: What extra activities are there to get involved in at the school?

A: Activities offered are weaving, cooking classes, salsa classes, and our personal favourite the "Real City Tour", where you get to visit a local school, mud brick making, chicherĂa (fermented beer house), San Pedro market and a local house in one of the poorest areas of Cusco.
